At Columbia International Collge we strive to maintain high academic and personal standards and we are committed to helping each student realize his or her full potential. In keeping with this and for the following reasons Columbia International College adopted a Uniform:

  1. To help instill pride in the school
  2. To lessen the financial burden on parents.
  3. To encourage better discipline and behavior
  4. To ensure that students are recognized for who they are and what they accomplish rather than for how fashionably they dress

All students attending Columbia International College, with the exception of the students who will only be at Columbia International College between May and the beginning of November, are required to purchase their own Winter Overcoat.

With the exception of the socks/hosiery, belt and shoes, all Uniform items must be purchased through Columbia International College as only Uniform items obtained through Columbia International College will be accepted. This measure has been taken to ensure consistency in quality, colour and appearance. Only Blazers bought through the College will be accepted on consignment for resale through the College Store.

When the Uniform is Required

1. On Campus the Uniform must be worn throughout the entire day between the hours of 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday, with the exception of "Casual Days". This includes the wearing of the Identification Card clipped to the breast pocket of the Blazer or Shirt, or pinned to the Pullover, in a visible manner.

2. The Uniform must be worn for evening and weekend classes and must be worn for all official Columbia International College events and outings, unless specific official instructions from teachers or staff allow otherwise.

3. When wearing the Uniform students who wish to wear a sweater may only wear the Uniform Pullover . No other sweater and/or winter overcoat may be worn with the Uniform.

4. Whenever the Uniform is worn on campus, whether of necessity or choice, it must be worn in its entirety and according to the College's instructions for wearing it. With the following exceptions, the Navy Blue Blazer or the Pullover (both may be worn together if desired) must be worn in the College's building:

From the beginning of May until the end of September, which are the warm months in Hamilton, the Blazer and the Pullover will be optional.

When a student is working in a science lab, or similar environment, where the Uniform may cause a hazard. In these circumstances the supervising teacher or instructor will provide the relevant instructions.

Uniform Maintenance

1. Students are responsible to clean and wash their Uniform and must wear clean clothes daily.

2. Students must maintain their Uniform in good repair and must replace any torn, frayed, stained or damaged Uniform items.

3. Students who out-grow their Uniform size or items of Uniform clothing will be required to purchase Uniform items in the appropriate size.

4. Upon graduation from Columbia International College or when they leave Canada, students may sell their Blazer.

No tailoring is permitted, which changes the style or appearance of any of the Uniform items of clothing.

Hair and Jewelry

1. Hair should be its natural colour and neatly groomed. Hairstyles should reflect the business like atmosphere of a learning community. No shaving of the head, in part or totally, will be allowed.

2. Hats or head gear are not allowed to be worn in any of the College buildings.

3. Male students are not allowed to wear any visible body-piercing jewelry and female students may only wear one earring per ear but no other visible body-piercing jewelry.

4. Excessive jewelry is not allowed
