The Mathematics Placement Test (MPT) is given to all new
students attending Columbia International College.   It
consists of six parts, which are made up of a variety of questions
from the current Ontario Mathematics Curriculum, grades 9
to OAC.   No dictionary or calculator is allowed during
the 75-minute test.   Depending on the results of the
test, the student will receive an initial recommendation from
the Math Department Head as to the appropriate level of mathematics
for that semester.
The MPT result is used as a guiding tool only, indicatin a
student's math abilities in a foreign language such as English.
A student's future goals and personal file will provide the
Principal and guidance counselors with added information,
which is then used to make final decision about the mathematics
courses he/she should take.
The MPT results will not be used in the computation
of any marks, for any courses, at any time.
