All awards and scholarships are given by Columbia International College. To qualify, all credits must be taken within 12 consecutive months.

Governor General’s Medal

This is awarded each academic calendar year (from June to May) to the graduating student with the highest academic average in the best six 4U courses completed in that year. Student receives a medal from the Governor General of Canada.

Head Prefect Award

Residence and school head prefects receive this annual certificate of appreciation award.

Columbia Leadership Awards

Awarded annually to students who have demonstrated outstanding leadership. Recipients are recommended by staff and chosen by a panel consisting of the Principal or Vice-Principal, and student leadership coordinators.

Lieutenant Governor’s Volunteer Award

The award recognizes an exemplary volunteer among the graduating students. It pays tribute to those students who not only complete the number of volunteer hours required to graduate, but who go above and beyond.

Residence Council Leadership Award

Awarded annually to any student who has made a significant contribution to residence life. The residence council advisors choose the recipient.

Ontario Scholars

Graduating students who obtain an average of 80% in six 4U credits may be designated as Ontario Scholars. These students receive an Ontario Scholar Certificate and a letter of congratulations from the Ontario Ministry of Education.

Principal’s Scholarship: University Pathway

Three scholarships of $1,500 are awarded in May, June, and December to the top 4U graduate with at least 85% average in the best six credits, and with at least 80% in 4U English.

Clement Chan Founders’ Merit Scholarship

In honour of Clement Chan, the Founders Merit Scholarship is presented to graduating students. Three scholarships of $1,500 each will be awarded, one each in May, June, and December. Recipients must demonstrate a record of academic excellence and well-roundedness exhibited through leadership skills, social-emotional skills, and care for physical well-being.

Jim Lawlis Memorial Scholarship

In memory of Mr. Jim Lawlis, beloved Music teacher at Columbia International College from 2003 to 2021, $1,000 is awarded to a top graduate who has demonstrated excellence in the arts, music and character, and who is continuing their study in music at a higher education. ​

Three scholarships of $1,000 are presented annually in May, June, and December to the top graduating student in the Social Studies Department.

Three scholarships of $1000 are presented annually in May, June, and December to the top graduating student in the English Department.

Three scholarships of $1000 are presented annually in May, June, and December to the top graduating student in the Science Department.

Principal’s Scholarship: Canadian Community College Pathway

One scholarship of $1,500 is awarded in May, June, or December to the top graduate entering a Canadian Community College with a minimum average of 80%.

Kevin Matthews Memorial Scholarship

In memory of Mr. Kevin Matthews, Maintenance Manager of Columbia International College from 1995-2010. Three scholarships of $750 are awarded annually, one each in May, June, and December to a top 4U graduate who has demonstrated leadership and service to the Columbia community, overcame personal hardships or challenges, and shown excellence and achievement.

Partner School Scholarship

Three scholarships of $1000 each will be awarded, one each in May, June, and December to the top graduate from our partner schools. Recipients must demonstrate a record of academic excellence and well-roundedness in social-emotional, physical, and leadership skills.

Social Studies Excellence Scholarship

Three scholarships of $1,000 are presented annually in May, June, and December to the top graduating student in the Social Studies Department.

Math Excellence Scholarship

Three scholarships of $1000 are presented annually in May, June, and December to the top graduating student in the Math Department.

Fine Arts Excellence Scholarship

Three awards of $1000 each awarded annually, one each in December, May and June to each semester’s top 4U/M graduate who has demonstrated excellence in the fine arts.

Continuing Top Subject Prize

A scholarship of $300 is given to each student continuing their studies at CIC  who received the top mark in a subject offered throughout the winter, summer, and fall semesters.

Integrity in Leadership Scholarship

Two scholarships are awarded in the winter and fall to a non-graduating student who has demonstrated integrity in their leadership roles in the school by being dedicated to personal growth, accountable and respectful of the school’s diversity in both words and actions.

Excellence of Character Scholarship

Two scholarships are awarded in the winter and fall to a non-graduating student who has proven to be well-rounded by excelling in leadership roles while maintaining a high academic standard of over 90%. They are well respected by both staff and students for embracing and exhibiting Columbia’s key character attributes throughout their time at Columbia.

Compass Group Canada Residence Life Scholarship

Two scholarships of $500 will be awarded to one male and one female non-graduating student in winter and fall semesters in recognition of their positive contribution to residence community life.

These designated university entrance scholarships have been specially implemented for graduates of Columbia International College only. They represent the commitment of our University Partners to assist Columbia’s graduates to achieve excellence.

Special entrance scholarships of $3500 awarded to students graduating with a grade average between 90%-94.99%, and $5000 awarded to students graduating with an average of 95% or more.

Four designated scholarships valued at $3500 each awarded annually in December, May or June to the top 4U graduates of Columbia International College entering the university. Entrance Scholarships are renewable each year up to a maximum of four years once a student meets eligibility requirements.

Ten scholarships, each valued at $2000, are exclusively available to the top 10 Columbia graduates who are admitted to the University of Toronto’s Mississauga campus.

Western will offer three designated admission scholarships to the top 4U graduate(s) of Columbia who register at Western’s main campus each year, at a value that will be $1000 higher than published admission scholarship values.
