On February 4, 2010 the school gym was transformed into a hub of activity for the annual University Fair. Hundreds of students had a chance to ask questions about their future.

Developing leadership skills are an important part of student life at Columbia. There are lots of opportunities for students to develop and hone these skills.

Thirty eight student leaders attended a four day leadership camp from January 28 to 31, 2010 at Bark Lake.

They say music heals the soul, and this statement has resonated loud and clear in the face of the tragedy that shook millions: the Haitian earthquake. The students of Columbia responded to this tragedy with a massive outpouring of love, hope and support.

More than 70 of Columbia’s top students were rewarded for their academic success on Wednesday January 27, 2010 at the Best of the Best awards.

Getting back into it: Clubs start

The holiday buzz has died down and students are settled into their classes and residence. Getting back into the swing of things, Columbia’s extracurricular activities began January 25, 2010.

Helping Haiti, a Dollar at a Time

On January 12, 2010 a magnitude 7.0 earthquake devastated the small Caribbean island nation of Haiti. There has been an outpouring of support and donations from around the world.

Columbia has joined in the fundraising effort, giving money to the Haiti Relief Fund.

Gearing up: Back to School

On January 11, the first day of school, Columbia’s classrooms and hallways were a hive of activity.

Many students sported fresh looks and shared holiday stories and the latest news in between classes. The Guidance Office and College Store were the most popular spots of the day, with students registering for classes and buying books.

Orientation 2010

Over 100 students joined the Columbia family last week (January 4 to 8, 2010.) They participated in a weeklong orientation with activities ranging from field trips to group activities.

Columbia's Got Talent

Snow White at the Winter show - 4U Drama

Singing, acting and quick feet were just part of the spectacle that was Columbia’s Winter Show.

The annual event saw the gym filled with students and staff alike, last Friday afternoon, November 27, 2009. Everyone was full of anticipation, hoping that this year’s show would live up to its predecessors and so it did. The show featured 16 performances from nearly 100 students.

Patrick Fernando

Mr. Patrick Fernando
Senior Advisor, University Placement
M. A (McMaster University)
Diploma in Development Studies, IFRED, University of Paris, France

Prior to joining Columbia as Senior Advisor of the University Placement Department, Mr. Patrick Fernando served as International Student Advisor, Student Exchanges Officer and Human Rights Consultant at McMaster University for over 20 years. He holds a Master of Arts degree and a Diploma in Development Studies.

He has also served as a Member of the Board of Directors on a number of prestigious national organizations such as the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE) and Canada World Youth (CWY).He was awarded Life Membership by CBIE in recognition of his exceptional services to international students.

With the wealth of expertise he has in serving international students, Mr. Fernando mentions that,
“It brings [him] great pleasure to assist students seeking admission to prestigious universities in Canada, United States, United Kingdom and Australia. [He] is extremely pleased to be associated with Columbia.”
