Columbia’s First Town Hall Meeting of 2012Each semester Columbia Staff gathers to discuss various school wide initiatives in a Town Hall meeting format. The impact of our Town Hall meeting for our employees is three fold:
o Reflection - Employees are given the opportunity to openly reflect on the past year.
o Innovation - Employees are encouraged to brainstorm innovative ways to improve our services.
o Celebration - The entire staff comes together to celebrate the achievements of their fellow colleagues.
At Columbia International College, the beginning of classes is signalled not by the usual morning bell, but by pop songs such as Man in the Mirror, Lean on Me, and I Believe. These catchy tunes extol some of the positive character traits – self-advocacy, caring, optimism – that the school wants to see developed in its students as they live and study abroad. The unique morning bell is one of the ways through which the school implements its Character Building Program.

Dr. Neville Newman
Dr. Newman joined Columbia International College in 1998. Holding a PhD in English literature and having taught at McMaster University, he is the author of a number of scholarly articles that have been published in respected academic journals. He is the founder and director of the Columbia International College school choir.
For Dr. Newman, “Total Care® means finding out a student’s strengths and developing them. Being a student at Columbia International College is much more than a classroom performance. It is the recognition and pursuit of one’s potential, and that is something I fully endorse both academically and musically in the choir of which I am especially proud”.
