Dreams Achieved: July 2010 GraduationAt Columbia, we are committed to delivering academic success. Thousands of graduates have been able to achieve their dreams of entering the world’s top universities. On July 21, the July Class of 2010 was added to these ranks. On this day, jubilant graduates, proud parents and dedicated school staff celebrated student success at a Graduation Ceremony in the Ainsliewood Gym.

Canadian Eh!Canada is home to friendly people, breathtaking scenery and maple syrup. The country is also known for having a delectable array of food that caters to every palette. Being a multicultural mosaic, not everyone has had a chance to sample authentic Canadian cuisine. On June 24, 2010, students joined the ranks of those who have eaten the nation’s delicacies at the Canadian Cuisine Dinner.
Moving on to High SchoolFor many, graduation day holds a special place in their heart. The same is true of Columbia’s Junior High School students, who on June 22 marked the closing of a chapter in their academic lives. The Student Café played host to parents, staff and the Graduating Class of 2010, who were beaming with pride throughout the Graduation Ceremony.
Columbia Wins Provincial AwardColumbia International College has been awarded the Eat Smart! Award of Excellence. This award recognizes Columbia’s long-standing commitment to meeting students’ physical needs and providing them with a large selection of healthy meals.
Columbia Students among the World’s Top MathematiciansFor the second year in a row, Columbia has been named Zone Champion in the Euclid Contest. Now in its 36th year, the Euclid Contest is a math competition that draws participants from every corner of the globe. The international competition, organized by the University of Waterloo, puts students’ mathematical problem solving abilities to the ultimate test.
Summer School is Here AgainThe summer semester is here and the halls of Columbia are filled, yet again, with student’s excited chatter. Returning students enjoyed a well deserved break where they rested and, in some cases, even did a little bit of travelling. This semester, Columbia also welcomed new students from every corner of the world to the school family.

Melody Yang
Melody completed the 10-month Pre-U program and graduated in 1999. While at Columbia, she entered several Math Competitions and won awards. She entered the Electrical Engineering program at McMaster and completed in 2003. She was recently accepted to the MBA program at Oxford University. Her interests are dancing, playing the piano, team and individual sports. She summarizes her experience at Columbia:
“The teachers at CIC are venerable teachers and great friends, who aside from the academic aspects also provide guidance for other aspects of my life. Columbia’s Total Care program helped me to settle down and adjust well to life in a new country.”
