JMS award ceremony Columbia celebrated the achievements of its Junior Middle School (JMS) today in a special Year End Ceremony.

The celebration highlighted the accomplishments of the past year and reflected on the hard work JMS students out into organizing and hosting events and activities including;
– Theatrical production of Charile’s Web
– Model UN Simulation
– Aboriginal Awareness Event
– Coin drive and fundraising initiatives for Free the Children

Students were also presented with Top Subject Prizes, Residence Certificates, Young Global Citizen Certificates and their Certificates of Completion.

Vote of Thanks
Adaolisa Dorene Azike was chosen by her peers to deliver this year’s Vote of Thanks. She thanked Columbia for allowing the JMS class to share in many new experiences together that developed both their confidence and character. After thanking her parents, houseparents, teachers and support staff, she concluded with the following motivational quote; “Life is like a roller coaster, sometimes it will pull your down but you’ll get up again.”

Teaching Excellence Award
Each year, one member of the JMS staff is recognized for their dedication and commitment to teaching. Mrs. Willison was presented with this year’s Teaching Excellence Award for her role in producing and organizing the JMS dramatic production, her passion for teaching social justice and her work liaising with houseparents.

A special thank you to Ms. Garell-Teti, Ms. Pat Doric, and the JMS Staff for their work in organizing the ceremony. A special thank you to the Maintenance team for their hard work and to Mr. Lawlis and his Vocal Music Class for their contributions.

We would also like to thank Sodexo for providing a wonderful reception that reflected the culture of the JMS students.
