Did your time at CIC influence your career path as a costume designer/stylist?
My time at CIC was helpful in shaping my career as a costume designer. The education I received encouraged me to think freely and embrace my individuality as a creative. I was encouraged to follow my heart throughout the creative process, which allowed me to envision a future where I could fully express myself as a designer. I’m deeply grateful for that experience. ·
Can you describe one of your most memorable projects or collaborations in your career so far?
One of my most memorable projects has to be the short film “The Lady of the House of Love” I directed and designed costumes for. It’s a project that feels like a dream. I’ve always been drawn to dark, suspenseful fairy tales, and this story embodies that passion. The film has been well-received, earning recognition at various film festivals and garnering over 20 awards. It’s a project that truly resonates with my creative vision the most.
How do you approach the creative process when designing costumes or styling for a production?
Music is an essential part of my creative process. When I begin a new project, I start by curating a playlist that captures the mood and tone I want to explore. This helps me immerse myself in the world I’m creating. From there, I dive into understanding the script and the characters, research, and creating mood boards. Collaboration with the team is also crucial, as it ensures that the final design aligns with the overall vision of the production.
What advice would you give to current students aspiring to enter the field of costume design or styling?
CIC is a fantastic starting point because it gives you the freedom to explore different possibilities and discover your true interests. But beyond that, it’s up to you to push boundaries and think boldly. As a creative, you should never let anything stand in the way of your vision. If you have an idea, even if you’re unsure of the outcome, don’t be afraid to experiment. Embrace the process, and you’ll find your way.
