Ontario Tech’s Research Team Engages CIC’s STEM Community with Incredible Robot Demo

By March 4, 2024March 6th, 2024No Comments

Two robotic animals from Ontario Tech University stole the show and left everyone in awe during an amazing demo at CIC yesterday! These four-legged robots showcased the cutting edge of a new era in robotics, transitioning from the realm of research to real-world applications.

Led by Dr. Patrick Hung, Professor and Graduate Program Director of Computer Science at Ontario Tech University, along with his research team dedicated to the research topics of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Robotics, the demo was aimed at promoting Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education, inspiring the next generation of STEM enthusiasts at CIC.

Our computer classes and robotics club members had a blast interacting with these adorable robot animals – a robot tiger that can stand and leap, and a robot guide dog that can assist the visually impaired. They also had the opportunity to get many questions answered by Dr. Hung’s team!

Interaction with CIC’s Robotics Team

After the demo, we were thrilled to host Dr. Hung’s team for a tour of CIC’s Robotics Lab, where they interacted with members of CIC’s Team 9062 – Critical Circuits. They exchanged ideas and tested the robots designed by Team 9062. Team 9062 competed at the 2023 FIRST Robotics Competition World Championship in Houston, achieving 72nd place in the division.

We’d like to give a huge shout-out to Dr. Hung and his team for their incredible demo and for inspiring CIC’s next generation of STEM enthusiasts!

Their visit also highlighted the strong University Partners ® collaboration between CIC and Ontario Tech University, which offers our graduates unique opportunities such as TOEFL/IELTS waivers, designated scholarships, and access to the 6-month Sure-to-University program.
