In-person classes resumed on Monday February, 8

By February 9, 2021No Comments

CIC Students living in Residence joined in-person classes starting Monday, February 8. The Ontario Education Minister announced the decision of allowing schools in Hamilton to reopen based on the Chief Medical Officer advice on Wednesday, February 3rd.

The Public Health Agency of Canada reported a drop of nearly 30 per cent in active COVID-19 cases across the country over the past two weeks. As the Province of Ontario also continues reporting lower new daily cases average, the announcement of schools reopening for in-person learning brings excitement for CIC students and staff.

CIC Principal, Vice-Principal and CEO held a Virtual Assembly with all students living in Residence on Friday, February 5th evening to present information on the current COVID-19 status here in Ontario; update and explain new safety protocols for attending in-person lessons; and answer questions.

CIC Stepped-Up Safety Protocols include 2 facial coverings minimum

All previously implemented health and safety protocols will remain in place at CIC with the return to in-person classes. Our safety protocols are beyond the local public health guidelines and we believe that is one of the effective ways we have managed to keep our community safe.

In addition to the mandatory use of masks; temperature checks; health screening; hand sanitizer, deep cleaning; cohorting and much more, we will be implementing additional protocols such as:

  • mandatory use of face shields as a second PPE
  • online contact tracing system and
  • daily health survey for students

On February 16, teacher led Clubs will resume at Ainsliewood, our Academic building. The Clubs and Study Hall will be offered to all in-person students on either Monday-Wednesday or Tuesday- Thursday.

Over 50 different Clubs will be offered this semester and as usual there will be a variety of areas: Athletics, Health & Wellness; Professional Development; STEM (Science Technology, Engineering, Math); The Arts; Hobby; and Community Service.

This will include popular options like Archery; Basketball; Soccer; Leadership, Essay Writing; Cooking; Dance; Arts & Crafts; Chess; Video Game; Photography; and much more.

Each in-person student will have 4 activity sessions each week.  We will continue having virtual Clubs and Activities for students studying remotely. We have on-line Model United Nations and Leadership teams that students have already applied and been selected for.
